MADISON, Wis. – A strong second day lead helped the Sam Houston State men’s golf team to clinch its first team title of the season here at the Wisconsin Badger Invitational Sept. 28-30.
The Bearkats edged out Iowa State by a stroke, shooting a three-day 7-over 871 [283-293-295] at University Ridge Golf Course.
All four of Sam Houston’s top four finishers placed in the top 10, led by seniors Zach Cabra and Logan Boatner, who tied for fifth at 1 over.
Cabra’s tournament included an impressive second round in which he shot 4-under 68. Boatner put together three consistent rounds, firing 71-73-73.
Iowa State made it close the final day after shooting 6 under as a team. Iowa State’s Scott Fernandez took top individual honors with a 3-under 213 [75-72-66].

SHSU will attempt to win back-to-back tournaments for the second consecutive year. Last season, the team won the Kansas State tournament, then returned home and won the Harold Funston Invitational title the following week.
